OUR STORY

Started from a simple observation

Holloway began when its founder, after years of helping friends navigate the rental market in Chiang Mai, realised that most tenants โ€” especially those new to Thailand โ€” were making significant housing decisions without anyone genuinely in their corner.

Agencies were often motivated by the fastest deal. Landlords were understandably looking after their own interests. And tenants, dealing with language barriers and unfamiliar leasing norms, were left to figure it out alone.

Holloway was built to change that โ€” one rental at a time. We are a small operation by choice. We believe that staying focused allows us to do better work for each person we help.

Renting in Chiang Mai takes local knowledge

Chiang Mai's rental market is unlike many others in Southeast Asia. The city has distinct neighbourhood personalities โ€” the Old City's temple-lined lanes, Nimman's cafรฉ culture, and the Wualai craft corridor each attract very different kinds of residents. Matching a person to the right area requires listening, not just searching.

Lease norms in Thailand can differ significantly from what tenants expect, particularly around deposit structures, maintenance responsibilities, and renewal terms. Having a bilingual intermediary who understands these conventions makes the process considerably smoother.
